The Birrificio del Forte tells us this way, with its beers, a story. It is the story of its land which celebrates its centenary this year; it is the story of the unique flavors of the coast and the hinterland of the province of Lucca; it is the story of the sea… that hides behind the story of the excellent products of this young but already award-winning brewery.
By the love for his land, the brewery has created, in honor of it hundredth birthday candle, a special beer, all dedicated to “Forte” is the “One Hundred Times Forte”, beer brewed using, among others, the ancient wheat varieties, a Wit that keeps a pale yellow and opalescent color. Thanks to the refreshing spiciness given by the peel of bergamot, bitter orange and coriander, it mitigates your thirst and reveals the gentle pleasure of grain, enhancing drinks but especially raw fish and shellfish, fries, vegetables, white meats and fresh cheeses.
The town of Forte dei Marmi was founded in 1914, after having made autonomous from the town of Pietrasanta whose it was fraction. The area began to develop in the early years of the sixteenth century when Michelangelo, commissioned by Pope Leo X, traced the path for the transport of marble from the Apuan Alps to the sea: a jetty and a warehouse for a long time were the only buildings in the current settlement. At the end of 1700 the town began to be populated by fishermen, marble workers and peasants, and in that same period it began to grow rapidly, the marble industry.
The take-off of Forte dei Marmi happened then thanks to tourism, whose modest beginnings are to be seen in the late nineteenth century, but whose rapid rise took off after the First World War, when the town became a place of residence of an aristocratic elite of ibusinessmen and intellectuals.
